When Bath’s Guildhall was chosen as a film location for ITV’s four-part drama Mavis Eccleston, its historic dome became part of a busy television set. During filming, a heritage glass window pane was discovered to be broken, creating a risk of disrupting production at a critical stage.
Our team attended promptly, assessed the situation, and put in place a practical solution to allow filming to continue. As a permanent replacement was not possible within the production schedule, the damaged pane was carefully made safe and temporarily replaced with a Perspex panel, ensuring the set could remain operational without interruption.
Before works began, we tested the original glazing putty and confirmed it was free from asbestos, which meant the damaged pane could be removed safely and the temporary repair completed efficiently, without the need for additional containment measures.
Although the repair itself was straightforward, the real value came from delivering it quickly and safely, with a clear understanding of both the building’s heritage significance and the demands of an active film set. By combining responsive maintenance with careful planning, the works protected Bath Guildhall while ensuring filming on ITV’s Mavis Eccleston continued as scheduled.

Thanks are also due to Brendan for securing the asbestos results in record time, and to Rich Box for coordinating and mobilising the workforce so effectively.
