Work is underway at Bath’s Haycombe Cemetery and Crematorium to provide better public facilities for its visitors

We have been awarded a £60,000, contract to upgrade the unisex and disabled toilets to enhance accessibility and the overall visitor experience at the site as a result of our internal redecoration project to stylishly revamp the Top Chapel.

‘Haycombe’, one of only two open cemeteries administered by Bath & NE Somerset Council and the only open Cemetery in Bath, has long been a place of reflection and solace for Bath residents. To better accommodate all visitors, the need for modern, accessible facilities that cater to a diverse range of users, including those with disabilities, was identified as the main priority for the 6-week project. During this period, every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the site’s daily operations.

Temporary facilities will be provided at the site for the duration of the modernisation, which includes new sanitaryware, slip-resistant flooring, interior decoration, and electrical works. A key focus is making the facilities level access, ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges can comfortably and independently use the amenities.

One of the principal drivers for the project is its dedication to inclusivity. By upgrading the unisex and disabled toilets, B&NES is taking significant steps to ensure that every visitor, regardless of their physical abilities, can access essential facilities with ease and dignity.

Speaking about the project, NKS’ Contract Manager for the project, Brendan Turner, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to have been chosen for this project, and we are committed to delivering facilities that are not only compliant with accessibility standards but also provide a welcoming and comfortable experience for all visitors. The Haycombe Cemetery and Crematorium has a unique significance in Bath, and we are pleased to be a part of its transformation.”
