The University of the West of England is one of the UK’s largest modern universities, known for its strong industry partnerships, applied learning, and vibrant student community. Its main hub, the Frenchay Campus in Bristol, hosts the majority of the University’s academic facilities, including the Student Village – a key residential area that’s home to thousands of students.
Client Requirements
Brecon Court is a central part of the Student Village that was in need of an upgrade to keep pace with UWE’s expectations for modern, comfortable student living. The University wanted to refresh and brighten the internal spaces, improve durability and comfort throughout the building, update its 72 ensuite shower rooms, and replace all 12 communal kitchens to create better shared spaces for students.
How we Helped
We were selected to deliver the upgrade after successfully completing a similar project at Mendip Court, a neighbouring accommodation block, and through our long-standing relationship with the University. UWE chose us for our proven track record in delivering high-quality student accommodation on time and within budget - and with the work needing to take place over the summer break - we had just eight weeks to complete the project before students returned.

Our team undertook a full internal refurbishment, giving student flats and shared areas a fresh, modern feel through complete redecoration and new flooring throughout. We also completed the remaining bathroom upgrades and fully replaced all 12 communal kitchens, installing new cabinetry, appliances, and finishes to create bright, welcoming spaces where students can cook, socialise, and feel at home. Careful planning and a phased approach allowed us to maintain safe access around the building at all times, while ongoing collaboration with UWE’s estates and accommodation teams ensured the work met the University’s high standards and long-term maintenance goals.

Results
The project was completed on time and fully ready for students arriving at the start of the academic year. Brecon Court now offers a fresher, modern living environment, with upgraded ensuite shower rooms, new flooring, and welcoming communal kitchens that better support day-to-day student life. The improvements significantly enhance both comfort and durability across the building, helping UWE continue to deliver high-quality accommodation.
